Samuel Leon Hinton Jr., 84, of Gastonia, passed away August 14, 2018 at his residence.
He was born June 28, 1934 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of the late Samuel Leon Hinton Sr. and Loraine Newman Hinton.
Sam lived in Lake County, Ohio, for 30 years and moved to Gastonia, North Carolina in 1985. He retired from CE Tyler after 35 years of service. He was a Korean War US Marine Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of over 33 years, Gayle Randels Hinton; sons, Samuel Hinton and wife Karen, Stephen Hinton and wife Laurie, Scott Hinton and wife Lisa; daughters, Susan Gerber and husband Mark, Merrily Brackett and husband Joe; grandchildren, Shaun Soder and wife Bethany, Cory Hinton and wife Amanda, Lynnea Jodway and husband Ryan, Savannah Hinton, Landyn Fassett, Emily, Andy, and Lucy Hinton, Cole Brackett; great-grandchildren, Kai and Bailyn Soder, Milena and Jack Jodway and Caysen Hinton and fur baby, Ellie Mae.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his fur babies, Blew and Grayson.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dickie Spargo will be held 3 pm Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.
Visitation will be 2 – 3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
