Sam C Vanover Jr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sam C. Vanover Jr., age 71, who left this world on October 30, 2026. Born on March 22, 1955, in Newhall, WV, Sam lived a life marked by compassion and service to others. He was devoted to his career as a nurse, specializing in geriatric care, where his kindness and dedication touched many lives.

Sam was also a loving husband to his sweet wife, Kathy. Together, they shared many cherished moments with their children and their beloved grandchildren. He found great joy in music, playing his guitar, cooking and camping.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S York Road, Gastonia, NC 28052.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Lois Vanover; wife, Kathy Vanover; son, Jonathan Vanover; grandson, Michael Atwood; brother, Willie Vanover.

Sam is survived by his children, Jason Vanover (Amanda), Leita Neal (Shannon), Lora Vanover; grandchildren, Jonathan Vanover (Nicole), Anna Schuler (Kevin), Clarissa Neal, Amber Green (TJ), Brittney Ellis (Matt), Austin Neal, Matthew Atwood, Hysel Holbert, Savannah Neal; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Hall; friend, Gary Wall.
