Russell "Pete" Thacker, Jr.

Russell "Pete" Thacker, Jr., 83, of Gastonia, passed away on February 28, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on October 17, 1937, in Richmond, VA, to the late Russell Jerome Thacker, Sr. and Gracie Richardson Thacker.

Pete, a native of Richmond, VA, was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Gastonia. He was also a veteran of the US Airforce. Pete loved gardening, going fishing, sports, and woodworking. He retired from Duke Power.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Thacker, and sister, Shirley Smith.

Left to cherish Pete's memories are his loving and faithful wife of over 36 years, Gail Tate Thacker; sons, Wilmer Martin, Rick Martin and wife Donna, Scott Thacker and wife Karen, Joe Martin and wife Toni, Chris Thacker and wife Jessica; daughters, Kim Chewning and husband Ron, Linda Martin, and Marcella Connelly; sisters, Linda McCarter, and Sylvia Myers; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

A funeral service for Pete, officiated by Pastor Gene Alley, will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church – 2616 Davis Park Rd, Gastonia, NC, 28052.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment to follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
