Russell S. Duren

Russell S. Duren, 90, of Gastonia, passed away on June 13, 2018, at Brookdale Robinwood in Gastonia.

He was born June 25, 1927, in Baltimore, MD, son of the late H.O. Duren and Emma Hoffman Duren.

Mr. Duren was a member of West Avenue Presbyterian Church in Gastonia.

He was the owner of Duren's Jewelry Shop in Gastonia; He loved operating his jewelry store and sometimes considered it his home.

Russell was a US Coast Guard veteran who served during World War II.

He enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Millwood.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Duren is survived by nieces, Judy Bess and husband Wayne, Lisa Gibson and husband, Claude; great - niece, Amanda Garcia and  fiancé' Ben Rogers; great-great niece, Emma Rogers.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Dan T. Duren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Holy Angels 6600 Wilkinson Blvd. Belmont, NC 28012 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
