Rufus Wilson Barnett, Jr.

Rufus Wilson Barnett, Jr., 91, of Gastonia, passed away August 21, 2017 at CHS – Kings Mountain.  He was born September 14, 1925, in York County, SC, the son of the late Rufus Wilson Barnett Sr. and Emily Delle Bigger Barnett.
Wilson was a long-time member of Union Presbyterian Church in Gastonia, where he served many years as secretary, treasurer and choir member.  Wilson retired from BB&T.  He was a member of the Soil & Water Conservation & Kwanis Club.  He was also a life-long farmer.  Wilson was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his son, Thomas William Barnett; daughter, Frances Barnett Parker; grandchildren, Robert Parker, Sarah Valentine, Laura Parker, Brian Barnett, Dottie Scott, Scott Barnett, Alicia Jordan and Jennifer Barnett; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Mason Barnett and wife, Delores and sister, Becky Byrd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, of over 68 years, Mary Wilson Barnett; son, Fred Wilson Barnett; sisters, Helen Goforth and Sara Johnson.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at Union Presbyterian Church - 5615 Union Rd, Gastonia, officiated by the Reverend James Holeman.
Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Union Presbyterian Church Building Fund - 5615 Union Rd, Gastonia, NC 28056.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
