Ruby Hope Smith

Ruby Inez Hope Smith, age 88, of West Cramerton, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A Gaston County native, she was born December 26, 1923, daughter of the late Silas and Eva Lineberger Hope. Mrs. Smith was a pianist for over 60 years in the Church of God, working with her children and her husband, Virgil Smith, until his death. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Owens. Ruby is survived by her son, Terry Smith of West Cramerton; daughters, Hope Grant and husband, Allen of Gastonia, Wanda Millsaps and husband, Eddie of Dallas, Patsy Laws and husband, Jerry of Ranlo; brother, Nelson Hope of West Cramerton; sisters, Rachel Simmons of Dallas, and Betty Stephens of Little Washington, NC; grandchildren, Pamela McBryde, Lisa Stephens, Mark and Karen Millsaps, Jordan and Abigail Grant; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, and Emma Stephens. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 1, from 4 until 5:30pm at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York. Rd., Gastonia. A graveside funeral service will be held 10:00am Monday, July 2, at Gaston Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Paul Collins. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
