Roy Leon Humphrey of Gastonia passed away Saturday, December 5 at his home.
He was the son of the late Roy and Geneva Humphrey. He was married to the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Judy Humphrey, who passed away earlier this year.
Leon dedicated his life to sharing the good news of Jesus with all he met, serving as a pastor for many years and more recently giving his time serving in the children's ministry at City Church. He loved to share a story or a joke, and seldom ever were they of the shorter variety. He was the kind of man that would ask the waitress for their name, and pray for them right by the table. In the words of one of his grandchildren, "the best thing of all was that he never let you forget how loved you were and how proud of you he was."
The impact of the life that Leon led will be felt for generations. Countless lives have been changed through knowing and spending time with Leon. He fought the good fight, never wavering in his resolve. He finished the race with vigor even when the path became difficult. And he kept the faith until the end loving Jesus with all his heart.
Leon was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, pastor, teacher and friend.
Leon is survived by his mother-in-law Lena Laughrun; two sisters, Becky Kirk and Terri Nesbitt; his daughter Leanne Fontenot (Louis); and his sons Chris Humphrey (Rhonda), Todd Humphrey (Adriann), and Mark Humphrey. He was the proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, Zac Fontenot, Jarred Humphrey, Justin Fontenot, Allison Humphrey, Kendell Littrell, Caleb Humphrey, Jane Claire Humphrey, Drew Humphrey, Jay Humphrey and Hutch Humphrey. He was also a great grandfather to Leo Littrell and Lillian Littrell.
Because of COVID, a memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.
