Roy Franklin Akers, 83, of Stanley, passed away May 7, 2015 at his residence. He was born December 23, 1931 in Roanoke, VA, son of the late William and Stella Akers. Roy was a loving husband, wonderful father and US Air force veteran. He was a member of the Paw Creek American Legion Post #353. Roy is survived by his son, Ronnie Lane Akers; brothers, Jimmy, Sterling and Hubert Akers; grandchildren, Taylor, Ali, Anthony and Sebastian Akers and Amber Kimbro; great-grandchildren, Myla and Alba Willis, Bella Akers and Ariah and Skye Kimbro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Akers, brothers, Joe, Clarence and Johnell Akers; sisters, Trula Mae and Emma Jean Akers and son, First Sgt. William Akers, USMC. The family wishes to give special thanks to Kathleen Lukinoff for being there for their Dad this last year. A graveside service will be held 12 noon Monday, May 18th, at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury with military honors.
