Roxanne "Roxie" Bratton Booker

August 21, 1954 — September 13, 2021

A Time to Be Born…..Roxanne "Roxie" Annette Bratton Booker, affectionately was known as "Buck", was welcomed into the world on August 21, 1954 in Gastonia, NC. She was the youngest of seven children born to Roy and Elmina Crawford Worthy Bratton.

A Time to Blossom…..Roxie was educated in Gaston County Public School System. She was a dedicated student and an active member in extracurricular school activities. In 1971, Roxie was proud to serve as Vice President of the first graduating class at North Gaston High School. She was baptized at an early age and faithfully attended Humphrey's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Dallas, NC where she served on the Hospitality Committee and Lay Council.  As a member of the Gospel Choir, Roxie's beautiful voice offered peace, comfort and spiritual uplift to her fellow congregants. After graduating high school, Roxie moved North, making Hillside New Jersey her home. She pursued studies at the prestigious Berkeley Secretarial School on the East Orange, New Jersey Campus. Upon graduation from Berkeley, she enjoyed a rewarding and successful career as a secretary with the Newark, New Jersey Board of Education and later with Merritt Electric in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Roxie returned to North Carolina in 2002 to pursue a new career in Adult Care with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and later obtained a certification in Early Childhood Education. She met and fell in love with Reuben Booker and on August 25, 2006, they were married.

A Time to Remember…..Roxie embraced all that life had to offer. She had the ability to put anyone she met at ease with her beautiful smile and bubbly personality. She was a jokester by nature and was known for brightening everyone's day with her sense of humor. Her friends always reminded her that she missed her callings and should have been a comedian. Roxie enjoyed traveling.  She visited the Virgin Islands and many other places.  One of her most cherished "local road trips" was to our nation's capital in Washington DC where she stood in front of the White House.

Roxie is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Elmina CW Bratton; and husband, Reuben Booker. She is survived by her brother, Roy L. Bratton and sister, Linda Bratton Malker, of Dallas, NC; sisters, Gwendolyn Bratton Watts (Charles), of Hillside, NJ, Connie F. "Because The Angels Came – No more grief or sorrow, no more suffering or pain, now there is everlasting peace because the angels came. Only God knows what is best and he gently holds my hand, guiding me to a better place because the angels came. When the sun rises tomorrow and I answer not my name, please don't cry. Rejoice with me because the angels came. I now can rest in peace as never could before. I answered the gentle knock of the angels at my door So please don't mourn for me as new wings I now claim, I can take my Light to Heaven because the angels came."
