It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ron Pruitt of Bessemer city, a dedicated police officer. Born on January 16, 1942, in Gaston County, Ron lived a life defined by service, integrity, and commitment to his family and friends. He departed this world on March 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Ron was known for his unwavering dedication to protecting and serving the community he loved so dearly. His many years as a police officer showcased not only his bravery but also his compassionate spirit. He embodied the notion that true strength lies not only in the wielding of authority but in the kindness shown to those in need. His contributions to law enforcement were immeasurable, inspiring a generation of future officers to uphold the values he cherished. He retired from the City of Gastonia Police Department where he served as a Major. He also retired from the Gaston County Sheriff's office where he served as a deputy.
During his spare time, he enjoyed going to the range to shoot and going to gun shows.
He was a member of First Assembly of God in Gastonia.
He was a US Air Force Veteran who proudly served in the Vietnam Conflict.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
As we remember Ron, let us celebrate the countless moments of joy, the stories shared, and the love he brought into our lives. In his memory, let us strive to embody the same spirit of service, compassion, and integrity that he so effortlessly showcased throughout his life.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, March 17, 2025, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Dennis Boyce.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the funeral home.
The burial will be in the Westview Gardens Mausoleum in Bessemer City with funeral honors provided by the Gastonia City Police Honor Guard.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jolene Lee Pruitt; beloved daughter, Amy Neubert and husband Tim; grandchildren, Mandi Merritt(Drew), Zack McElveen, Kortni Pruitt, Jacob Pruitt (Kelsee), Gabriel Pruitt, Nikki Pruitt, Noah Pruitt, Abbi Pruitt; great-grandchildren, Sophee Pruitt, Brice Merritt, Henry Pruitt, Brooklynn Merritt, Deacon Pruitt, Asher Pruitt; special person who was like his daughter, Kim Earwood; special fur baby, Maggie, and grand-fur babies, Olivia, Porter, Molly.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Pruitt; sons, Jason Pruit and Chris Pruitt.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ron's caregiver Danielle Bush, for her support and caring.
