On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Roland E. Stewart passed away peacefully in his Bessemer City home surrounded by his children.
Roland received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in 1975 from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.
He received his Exhorter's License in 2009 from the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee. Roland, known by most as "Jack" served as a Medical Technologist in the United States Air Force from 1952 – 1972. He married Katherine Elizabeth Harrison in October 1951. They raised one son and four daughters while traveling the world. Roland loved to read and study the Bible. He took short term trips to Romania during the years of 1991 – 1998 where he taught the Bible, visited orphanages and took medical supplies to the leper colony. He ministered in Liberia, West Africa in 2010. Roland also loved to scuba dive. He was a Master Scuba Diver and frequented the coast of North Carolina and Florida exploring sunken ships.
Roland is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Stewart; his parents, Clarence and Flossie Stewart; sisters, Mary Mathis and Mildred Adams.
He is survived by his son, Ronald Stewart and wife Pam; his four daughters, Carolyn Vannoy and husband Mike, Elaine Stewart, Donna Adams and husband Jeff, Tina Stewart; eight grandchildren, Chris, Melissa, Jeffrey, Tyler, Josh, Daniel, Joshua and Sarah; four great-grandchildren, Brianna Ava, Taylor, Dawson.
A receiving of friends will be held at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road, Gastonia, on Friday, March 22, 2019, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held at the Bessemer City Church of God, 701 Gastonia Highway, Bessemer City, at 11:00 am Saturday, March 23, 2019, officiated by Pastor Harold Ashe and the Reverend Paul Collins and Mrs.Patsy Collins.
A military graveside service will follow at the Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
