Roger Georg McDaniel

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Georg McDaniel, who left us on October 13, 2026, at the age of 71. Roger was born on August 14, 1955, in Eschwege, Germany, and later made his home in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he became a beloved member of the community.

Roger will be fondly remembered by his loving wife, Peggy McDaniel, daughter Andrea Rhyne and husband Daniel, son Andrew McDaniel and wife Diana, step-son Jonathan Williams, and his Brother David McDaniel and wife Joan. Roger took immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Kayla, Jaiden, Brooklyn, Arielle, Roman, Noah, Elizabeth, Johanna, Naomi, Jawan, Jaquala, and Se'marjae, as well as being a great-grandfather to Amir, Aiden, Jaziyah, and Jamir.

Roger was a service tech in the phone company industry, known for his skillful hands and love for building and repairing things. An avid reader and a practitioner of Kung Fu, he had a zest for life that inspired those around him. Above all, Roger had a deep love for Jesus, and we take solace in knowing he is now in Heaven with Him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Helga McDaniel, and his granddaughter, Brooklyn McDaniel.

As we say goodbye, we invite all who knew Roger to join us in sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps a few tears as we celebrate a life well-lived. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

A service will be held on Tuesday, October 20th. Visitation will be from 12-1 pm and a funeral to follow at 1 pm at Pleasant Ridge AME Zion Church, 910 Spencer Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28052.
