Robert "Rob" W. Hayes

Robert "Rob" W. Hayes, 60, of Gastonia, NC, and formerly of Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Charlotte, NC. Born on March 1, 1965, in Somerset, KY, Rob grew up in Lexington, KY, where his passion for adventure began. After finishing high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, a chapter of his life he held dear.

Rob's love for all things aviation led him to a fulfilling career as an airplane mechanic, where he dedicated over 35 years to ensuring the skies were safe for everyone. He worked for various airlines before settling into his role at PSA in Charlotte. Outside of work, Rob was a loyal Kentucky Wildcats fan, often cheering on his team at every opportunity.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Laura Hayes of Gastonia, NC; his parents, Herman and Bonnie Hayes of Lexington, KY; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Peggy Hayes; his sons, Jake and Ben Hayes of Buford, GA; his stepsons, Patrick and Alex Reel; and a wide circle of friends who will miss him dearly.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Rob's life on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, located at 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052. We hope you can join us to share stories and memories of Rob.
