Robert W."Bob" Thornburg

Robert W. "Bob" Thornburg, 93, of Bessemer City, passed away on June 14, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia. He was born July 6, 1920 in Aiken, SC, son of the late Raymond W. Thornburg and Charlotte Butler Thornburg. Mr. Thornburg was a devoted husband, loving father and papa, who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Bessemer City. "Bob" was a member of the Whetstone Masonic Lodge and the American Legion both of Bessemer City and was a US Navy Veteran. All services will be private. Mr. Thornburg is survived by: his loving wife of 40 years, Frances Thornburg; son, Jonathan Cobb of Kings Mountain; daughter, Lisa Warner of Bessemer City; sisters, Hilda Gunst of IN, Dorothy Sykes of FL; grandchildren, Katherine Warner, Ally Cobb; great grandchild, Leighton Warner; nieces and nephew, Susan Taliercio, Lisa Gunst - Silverman, Dedie Dooley, Katie Rossabi, Lundy Sykes, Charlotte Sykes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: sister, Charlotte Crawford; brother, Jack Thornburg.
