Robert Bryant Fain

Oct 3, 1942 — Jun 21, 2026

Robert Bryant "Bob" Fain, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 21st, leaving behind a legacy of love, and hard work.

Bob shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Beth Allen Fain who passed away on April 24, 2026. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and caring for others. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, commitment, and devotion, and they cherished the life they created together.

Bob dedicated nearly 30 years of service to AMP and Tyco, where he built a reputation for his strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment before retiring.

Family was always at the center of Bob's life. He was a devoted father to his daughter Kimberly Koonce, and her husband Tony (New Bern, NC), and son, Dr. Allen Fain, and his wife, Heather (Piedmont, SC.) He was a proud grandfather to Logan Koonce, Mary Kate Fain, and Brooks Fain who brought him tremendous joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Beth Fain, his daughter, Susan Kiser and and his parents, Lucy Cruise Fain and Walker Bryant Fain of Patrick County, Virginia.

Robert is survived by his siblings: Martha F. Long; Miranda F. Shutt and her husband, Bill; Lonnie M. Fain; Beverly F. Deyton; Mary F. Saunders; Thurman W. Fain and his wife, Monya; Harold N. Fain and his wife, Debbie; Gary D. Fain and his wife, Karen; and Dr. Elizabeth A. Fain and her husband, Scott Auld, all of North Carolina and Virginia.

Many people knew Bob from the countless hours he spent in the stands and on the sidelines of ballfields and gymnasiums. Whether cheering on his own children or supporting other young people in the community, he rarely missed an opportunity to encourage others. His presence was a testament to his belief in showing up and supporting others. In recognition of his unwavering support of local athletics, Bob was honored in 2017 with the Bennie Cunningham Fan of the Year Award at the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Bob also had a special talent for woodcarving where his specialty was carving ducks. Through patience and craftsmanship, he created pieces that reflected his creativity and attention to detail. Woodcarving brought him great enjoyment and served as another expression of his quiet and thoughtful nature.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Greene Funeral Service. A service celebrating Bob's life will be held at Ridge Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, Tuesday, June 30. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm and the service will be 2pm.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to all those who offered care, support, prayers, and compassion during Bob's illness and in the days surrounding his passing.

Though our hearts grieve their loss, we find comfort in knowing that Bob and Mary Beth's love story continues beyond this life, reunited once again after a lifetime of devotion to one another.
