Obituary

Ricky Leland Marr (Squirrel) of Kings Mountain, passed away July 10, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born August 7, 1953, in Gastonia, North Carolina, son of the late Earl and Dorothy Marr. Ricky was a member of South Gastonia Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Freida Marr; sister, Sherry Rucker.

Ricky is survived by sons, Rick Marr (Lisa), Shannon Marr (Michelle); daughters, Amy Blair (Eric), Jennifer Marr; sisters, Cathy Ramey, Angie Cogdill (Richard), Melody White (David), Terry Sherrill (Scott); brother, Larry Marr (Rita); grandchildren, Brittney Long (Michael), Kameron Marr, Baylee Marr, Ashlynn Marr (Lex), Caleb Marr, Brayden Blair (Kirsten), Kayleigh Marr, Allie Green; great-grandchildren, Carli Long, Zayne Salvator, Cooper Marr; and abundance of extended family.

Ricky went by many names, Squirrel, Dad, Brother, Papa, Big Rick and so many more, but the man behind those names never wavered. No matter what name you knew him by, he carried the same unwavering strength, loyalty, and love for his family, friends, and bride. To each person who knew him he was a provider, a storyteller, a comedian, a friend, but mostly a steady source of love and support to all. Ricky's greatest legacy was not found in the titles he held, but in the lives he touched. He loved deeply, stood firmly by the people he cared for and showed through his actions what it meant to be devoted to family. His strength was matched only by the size of his heart, and his presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of home to those around him.

He will forever be remembered for the love he gave, the lessons he taught, the memories he created and the countless ways he made the people around him feel valued and cared for. Ricky, you will always be loved, always be missed and never be forgotten. Until we meet again.

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; your rod and you staff, they comfort me...Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the of the house of the Lord forever".

A gathering of friends and family will be held 5-8 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia.
