It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricky Gene Brooks, who left us tragically in an accident on November 4, 2025. Born on November 27, 1960, in North Carolina, Ricky spent his life spreading joy and laughter as a devoted husband and a cherished friend to many.
Ricky, a resident of Gastonia, NC, was retired as a proud owner and operator of a landscaping business. He found great pleasure in his work, taking pride in every flower he planted and every lawn he tended. But beyond his work, Ricky had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did. He loved driving through the mountains, finding peace in the beauty of nature.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Ricky also loved fishing and golfing, although his friends often teased him about his skills on the golf course. He was a loyal friend, always ready for a good laugh and great company. His biggest joys included tending to his garden and hosting bonfires, where friends would gather to share stories and make memories.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Brooks; son, Ethan Andrew Brooks; sister, Chrystal Turlington; nephew, Wesley Whitworth; best friends, Tim Hickson, Shawn Minerva, Jerry Decker, Jimmy Lewis, Buster Lewis, and many other friends, but too many to name them all; who will forever cherish the wonderful moments they shared.
A memorial service to celebrate Ricky's life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel, with visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers. ( t2t.org)
Ricky will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His spirit will live on through the memories shared by family and friends, and all who were fortunate enough to experience his vibrant personality.
Rest in peace, Ricky. Your love for life will never be forgotten.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Delmos and Quida Brooks; first wife, Denise Blalock Brooks.
