Richard E. Wardlow

Richard E. Wardlow, 93, of Cornelius, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016, at his home.

He was born January 5, 1923, in Barton County, MO, son of the late Thomas and Laura Wardlow.

Richard was a diplomate of Missouri Southern State College, Georgetown University, UNC-Chapel Hill and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. At age 19 he volunteered for military duty. He served in the infantry, seeing combat duty from Normandy to the Elbe River. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with military honors, including: Combat Infantry badge, G.C. medal, Purple Heart medal, Bronze Star Medal for Valor, Two Oak Leaf Clusters and numerous campaign ribbons and unit citations. Richard practiced law in Charlotte from 1950 until retirement in 1980. For most of those years, his firm was Wardlow, Knox, Caudle, and Wade.

He was preceded in death by his seven brothers. Also predeceasing him was Jack Conkwright, his beloved companion since 1951.

A special thanks is given to Robert Dragg and especially to Jeff Huffstetler who graciously stayed with Richard so that his final request was honored to remain in his home.

Richard requested no funeral rites and that memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
