Richard Payne

Richard "Dickie" Lewis Payne, 83, of Dallas, passed away January 20, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

A Gaston County native, he was born November 2, 1938, son of the late Doris Howard Payne and Ida White Payne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Moore; and sisters, Lillian Whitworth, Virginia Bazoon, and Eloise Mabry.

He was a member of Independent Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas, and was a former deacon and Sunday School Teacher at several other churches.

Mr. Payne retired from Duke Energy with 37 years of service.

He loved his family, fishing, and helping others.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Hillis Smith Payne; sons, Scott Payne, Brian Payne and wife Tammy; brother, Howard Payne Jr. of Florida; and grandchildren, Zachary Payne and Jordan Payne.

A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Cecil Spry, will be held 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 25, at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
