Richard (Rick) Michael Edmond, 59, of Gastonia, NC, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 15th, 2026. Rick was the youngest of eight children, born to the late Lee and Mimi Edmond. He spent his formative years growing up on South Main Street in Cohocton, NY, where he enjoyed the special benefits of living in a tight-knit community. He was a proud little brother who idolized his older siblings and could often be found at their various sporting events as a ball boy and part of the team at Cohocton Central School. He could also be found with his Dad and brothers at various Ridge Home building sites helping support their efforts.
He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School (Wayland, NY) and Cohocton Central School before moving to Charlotte, NC in 1980, where he later graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School and then went on to CPCC Culinary School while working at various local restaurants. With the help of his parents and family, Rick realized his dream of opening a small restaurant and catering business, Rick's Place, in the early 1990s. He had a successful run and served the Grier Heights community. As a youth, Rick also served as an altar boy at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cohocton, which helped prepare him for his three trips to the marriage altar.
Later on, he continued cooking and sharing his humor with his loved ones wherever he lived, in Florida, Mt. Croghan, SC, and most recently, Gastonia, NC. Rick was always the life of the party and enjoyed singing karaoke at barn parties, winning heated games of pitch, and playing, listening to, and dancing to all kinds of music. He was also an avid NASCAR and college sports fan and a lifelong animal lover.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brother Jamie, brother Jeff, and two nephews, Kevin and Brian. Rick is survived by his loving children, Aleah and Hunter, two precious granddaughters, Mila and Chloe, his siblings, Danny (Ellen), Chrissy (Tom), Doug (Debbie), John (Rita), and Annie (Scott), sisters-in-law, Darlene and Leslie, his large crew of nephews and nieces, two aunts, one uncle, cousins, and friends.
Rick spent his last two years battling various health issues, including dementia. During that time, he lived with Annie and Scott and at The Greens at Gastonia, and we want to express our utmost appreciation for the loving care provided by Annie, Scott, and the team at The Greens.
Celebrations of life for Rick will be held at later dates in North Carolina and New York. The South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, Gastonia, NC, is serving the family. The family requests that any contributions be made in honor of Rick to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, the ASPCA, or your local animal shelter.
