Reba Rayfield Costner Grigg

Reba Rayfield Costner Grigg was born March 9, 1945, in Gaston County and was the sixth child born to the late Roy William and Glennie Plemmons Rayfield. Reba left us to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. In addition to her parents, she was reunited with her wonderful husbands, Rev. Johnny Costner and Carris Grigg; her siblings, Irene Jenkins, Earl Rayfield, Charles Rayfield and Roy Rayfield Jr; and a great grand baby.

After high school graduation at Tryon School, she went on to Kings College to get a secretarial degree and later she attended Gaston College where she served as a Marshall in the late 70's. She retired as a bookkeeper from Greene Funeral Service, a career she loved because she was able to spend time with her family. Reba was witty and intelligent but most of all she always had a humble spirit that served her well as a Pastor's wife for many years. For more than 27 years she was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, Shelby, until her health prevented her from attending. Until she passed away, she was always talking about her beloved fur babies, Dollie and Princess, who died a few years previous.

Reba will be dearly missed by her children, Tammy Greene (Scott) and William "Bill" Costner (Lisa); siblings, Ruby Bowman (Darrell Larhmar) and Harold Rayfield (Jeanette); grandchildren, Jonathon Greene (Jamie), Erica Calaway (Joe) and Brandon Costner; great grandchildren, Ensley and Nataley Greene, Elliot and Aiden Calaway; stepdaughter, Doris West (David) and their children, Brandy Bumgardner (Louie), Bryan West (Allyson) and Brett West (Margarita), 10 great grandchildren; friends and caregivers, Alba Hedrick and Natasha Greene; many nieces and nephews.

The family invites you to gather for a time of fellowship to celebrate Reba and a life well lived on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 6 - 8 pm at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home and she will be laid to rest beside her husband Johnny at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, NC.
