Raymond Kenneth Purkey

Mr. Raymond Kenneth Purkey was born in Friendsville, Tennessee, on February 5, 1955.  He was the son of the late Mrs. Ossie Lucille Green Clippard Purkey and the late Mr. Avery Kenneth Purkey.

He attended the schools of Blount County, Tennessee.  He moved to Gaston County in the early 1970's. He was employed by Jenkins Metal of Gastonia, and Red Valve of Gastonia, NC.  Raymond loved fishing, wood working carpentry, and had a flair for painting and artwork.  He had an outgoing, friendly personality, and loved people.  He often told childhood stories and conversed freely with friends and family.  He was always giving and helping others.  He gave his life to Christ and began attending Hope & Restoration Ministries Church in Gastonia, NC.  Raymond faithfully gave to the church.  He was optimistic and cheerful, even after his health began to decline.  He will be sorely missed.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, a special friend, Ms. Bessie Brice; brother, Mr. Dale Purkey, of North Dakota; step-mother, Mrs. Martha Purkey, of Crowders Mountain, Gastonia, NC; cousin, Ms. Laura Gordon, of Gastonia; other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, with Pastor Carla Smith Brown, officiating.  The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
