Ray Howard Walker

April 8, 1946 — February 8, 2017

Ray Howard Walker, 70, of Bessemer City, passed away on February 8, 2017, at his home, after a courageous battle of brain cancer.

He was born April 8, 1946, in Gaston County, son of the late Esper Walker and Leuna Gibson Walker.

He always said he had the best children and loved them dearly. He was a hard worker, who was always concerned with helping others who were in need. He never turned anyone down that needed help. Ray enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was a carpenter by trade and had many other various skills that contributed to him being able to do any type of job.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia, officiated by Brother Tommy Johns and  Brother Richard Boatwright.

The family will receive friends 6-8pm Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Walker is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ruth Morton Walker; son, Clint Walker and wife Melinda; daughters, Lisa Gunter and Melisa Walker; brothers, Terry, Hank, Everette and Elton Walker; sisters, Geneva Walker, Helen Campion Walker, Shirlene Radford; grandchildren, Kevin, Heather, Todd, Sunshine, Joseph, Brandon, Bruce, Hailey, Carrington, Rashad and Melia; great – grandchildren, Caleb and Victoria.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandson, Robert Lee Gunter; son-in-law, Gregory Scott Gunter.

Memorials may be sent to Ruth Walker or Kings Tabernacle 204 Black Snake Road Stanley, NC 28164.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
