Ray Lewis Stuart, 80, of Gastonia passed away May 29, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Foy and Alice Stuart, born on December 19, 1933. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine!" Ray was a veteran and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 14 years. He retired from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation after 27 years of service and was an active member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church for many years. He appreciated the members of his Sunday school class very much. Mr. Stuart is survived by: sons and daughter in-law, Jeffery Stuart, Michael (Tami) Stuart; daughter and son in-law, Karen (Curtis) Brooks; grandson and his wife, Travis (Rachel) Stuart; granddaughters, Meredith Brooks and Mikayla Stuart; great grandchildren, Kalli, Wyatt, and Colton Stuart all of Gastonia; many beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Chapel Grove Baptist Church. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 pm following the visitation, conducted by Rev. Roger Overton of Chapel Grove Baptist Church and Rev. Josh Glandon of Calvery Baptist Church. Mr. Stuart was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna, of 60 years less than six weeks ago. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Blair Stuart. Memorials may be sent to the Heart Society of Gaston County, 1201 E.
