Ray Smith, 81, of Grover, passed away on August 15, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 30, 1936, in McColl, SC, son of the late Ernest Smith and Ada McKaskill Smith.
Mr. Smith was a charter member of Holly Ridge Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC.
Ray was a veteran of the US Air Force. He retired from Eastern Airlines after 26 years of service.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Holly Ridge Baptist Church 658 Tribal Road Blacksburg, SC, officiated by the Rev. Michael Ware.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, with military honors provided by US Air Force.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Ledford Smith; son, Donnie Smith (Cheryl); daughter, Wanda Smith Walker; brother, Lide Smith (Polly); sister-in-law, Betty Ledford; grandchildren, Chad Moore (Christy), Justin Moore (Brandi), Jamie Smith, Brandy Smith, John Williford; fifteen great-grandchildren; six nephews and two nieces.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Jeanette Childress; brothers-in-law, Carl and Danny Ledford.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hospice of Cleveland County 951 Wendover Heights Shelby, NC 28150 or Holly Ridge Baptist Church 658 Tribal Rd. Blacksburg SC 29702.
Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
