Ray Andrew Long, 86, of Kings Mountain, passed away September 5, 2014, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. He was born September 29, 1927, in Gaston County, son of the late Fred Spurgin Long, Sr. and Myra Bright Grissom. Mr. Ray loved his family and dogs. As a native of Gaston County, he served in the Navy and Army National Guard during WWII. He was Chaplin of the American Legion Post 23, Gastonia, and loved to hunt. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Mary Peeler Long; sons, Mario Long, Fransco Long, Norman Burger; sister, Helen Barker; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter, Melinda Long. A funeral service will be held 2pm on Tuesday at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Rd. Gastonia. Rev. Billy Cooper will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm, Monday at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service. Interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
