Rachel Elaine McClamma

Rachel Elaine Summitt McClamma, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully from this world on May 23, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on March 1, 1948, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Rachel spent most of her life in Gastonia, where she devoted herself to her family and home.

Rachel was a strong Christian who drew inspiration from watching Dr. Billy Graham and lived her faith with genuine kindness and grace. Her love for baseball was undeniable, and she proudly cheered for her favorite team, the Chicago Cubs. Above all, Rachel's heart was filled with love for her family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Tammy Summitt; son, Thomas Summitt; grandchildren, Allison Woelfel (Zach), Gerry Davis III, Ethan Summitt, and Elana Summitt; great grandchildren, Penelope Woelfel and Theodore Woelfel; previous husband, Charles Summitt, all who will forever carry the love and lessons instilled in them by their beloved Grammy. Rachel will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Ashe and Nell Peacock; husband, Joe McClamma; brother, Gerald Ashe.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rachel's life at a graveside service on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The service will be held at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, located at 251 Olney Church Rd., Gastonia, NC 28056. Let us gather together to share memories and honor the wonderful life she lived.
