Phillip Earl Johnson, 56, of Belmont, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born September 12, 1956 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Earl Junior Johnson and Barbara Cornwell Johnson Huggins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Brad Ballard. Mr. Johnson was a US Army veteran. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and was a member of the Gold Panning Association. He loved the outdoors and loved to stay at the family's cabin in Brown Mountain. Phillip is survived by his loving wife of over 15 years, Marcha Beck Johnson of the home; father, Edward Huggins of Mt. Holly; sons, Joshua Levi Johnson and Amanda Nicole Adams of Mt. Holly, Jeremiah Lee Johnson of Mt. Holly; stepson, John Sibray of Charleston, WV; sisters, Angela Johnson Stahl and husband, Bryan of Dorado, Puerto Rico, Carla Gaston of Mt. Holly, Mary Ballard of Belmont, Lavonne Beach and husband, Darryl of Belmont; grandson, Drake Edward Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia and other times at the home of his sister, Carla Gaston, 812 Noles Dr., Mt. Holly. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter St, Suite 150, Charlotte, NC 28204. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
