Philip Joel Costa of Kings Mountain, NC, born July 7, 1947, in Corning, New York to Winifred and Anthony Costa, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026.
He will be remembered as a truly great storyteller-if Phil began a story, you knew to settle in, get comfortable, and enjoy the journey, because it was sure to be a good one. His stories, like his life, were rich, colorful, and unforgettable.
A fantastic baseball player in his younger years, Philip carried his love of the game with him throughout his life. He was also a devoted animal lover, with a special place in his heart for his dogs and cats.
Philip is now reunited with his brother, Gerry, who preceded him in death by just two months. One can only imagine the two of them together again, sharing stories and playing ball once more.
He is survived by his loving family: his sister, Karen Gowen of Montrose, Colorado; his daughter, Nichole Costa of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his brother, Gordon Costa of Phoenix, Arizona; stepson Joseph Blankenship of Abingdon, VA, stepdaughter Sarah Jane Hargis of Austin, TX, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Philip's honor to Furbabies Rescue/ Hickory, NC (furbabiesrescue.org).
Philip's unwavering joy for life, warmth, humor, and gift for storytelling will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his stories-and the joy he brought through them-will live on.
