It is with heavy hearts, yet celebratory spirits that we announce the passing of Phil Stephens Rucker, who left us peacefully on February 18, 2025, at his home in Union Oregon, at the age of 81. He was formerly of Gastonia. Born on May 13, 1943, in Gaston County, NC. Phil dedicated his life to serving the community with 30 years of service as a steadfast leader in the fire service. As a Division Fire Chief for Gastonia City Fire Department, he was a beacon of courage and dedication, inspiring countless firefighters and citizens alike with his unwavering commitment to safety and service.

After he retired Phil went to work for 10 years with Sports and Promotion Tide Racing. He traveled around showing the NASCAR Tide Show Car.

He was a US Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict.

Phil's life was a testament to the values of bravery, camaraderie, and community. He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his kindness, warmth, and infectious sense of humor. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of working alongside him and learning from his remarkable example.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Steve Hicks.

The family will receive friends 10-11 prior to the service at the funeral home.

The burial will be at Armstrong Cemetery in Gastonia, NC, with military honors provided by The US Air Force.

Phil is survived by sons, Tommy Rucker and wife Tammy, Steve Rucker and wife Deborah, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, LT Rucker and Emma Grindle Rucker, first wife, Irmgard Wiegand Rucker, second wife, Sharon Dodson Rucker, sisters, Allene Hibberts and Linda Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Holy Angels, PO Box 710 Belmont, NC 28012, a cause close to Phil's heart.
