Phil Firrantello

Phil Firrantello,62, of Kings Mountain, passed away on June 18, 2018, at his home.
He was born December 14, 1955, in New Rochelle, NY, son of the late Tom and Marjorie Firrantello.
Phil served with the Gastonia Police department from 1986 – 2007. He obtained his advanced law enforcement certification in 1994. He was an original member of the Gastonia Police S.W.A.T. team where he served for 5 years. He served as a dive team leader for 3 years. He also served as a Vice Detective, CID Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and ID Sergeant.   He was instrumental in modernizing and updating the equipment and procedures of the CSI unit of the Gastonia Police Department.
Once he retired, he served as a part-time deputy with the Gaston County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Firrantello was a veteran of the US Navy.  He was very adventurous and loved to travel.
He had lived in New Jersey, Florida, California, Vermont before making North Carolina his home.
He loved all types of animals, especially dogs.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia, officiated by Chaplain Dennis Boyce.
Honors will be provided by the Gastonia City Police.
The family will receive friends 1:30 – 2:45pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Susan Haynes Firrantello; daughter, Caitlyn Mason of Little Rock, AR; son, Phillip "Phil" David Firrantello of McCarthy, AK; brothers Tom and George Firrantello; sisters, Marge McLaughlin, Susan C. Firrantello; nieces and nephews, Dawn, Joseph, Anthony, Patti, Jimmy, Annie.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Gaston County Humane Society P.O. Box 2334 Gastonia, NC 28053.
Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
