Peggy Jean Lowery

Peggy Sligh Lowery, 88, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Brookdale Retirement Center, Charlotte, NC.

Peggy was born May 10, 1936, in Rockhill SC, daughter of the late Allen J. Sligh and Pearl Evans Sligh.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Lowery; brothers, T.J. Sligh, Charles "Buddy" Sligh, Harold Sligh, and Edgar "Bo" Sligh; and her sister, Ruby Rockholt.

Peggy was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Gastonia. Her husband, James A. Lowery pastored for many years in North and South Carolina with most recent churches, Temple Baptist Church, Gastonia for 8 years, and Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia for 26 years. Peggy was an exemplary follower of Jesus Christ and served humbly as a dedicated, loving, and caring pastor's wife. She served as the Director of Day Care at Chapel Grove Baptist Church for 26 years and loved her employees and the children like they were her own family. After retirement she continued to volunteer in many ministry capacities of her local church. In addition, Peggy was a devoted mother and mentor to her sons and grandchildren.

Peggy is survived by her sons, Mike Lowery and wife Tracy of Gastonia, NC, Jonathan Lowery and wife Michelle of Myrtle Beach, SC; as well as the grandchildren, Lauren, Katie, and Hannah.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Scott Whitener, and Rev. Mike Lowery, will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Temple Baptist Church - 701 Littlejohn St., Gastonia, NC 28052. Music will be provided by Rev. Scott Whitner, Rev. Chris Roberts, and Rev. Jonathan Lowery.

The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00am, Wednesday, at the church.

Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
