Pauline Barnes

Pauline Agnes Barnes, 101, of Gastonia, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

Born on November 5, 1920, in Lincoln County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucy Boyles Loftin.

Pauline was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her secret to living to be 101 was a never-ending positive attitude combined with her grit and determination. She was always active, never complained, had a thankful heart, quick wit, and a great sense of humor. She maintained a huge garden and loved to bake. She was well known for her famous chicken and dumplings and pound cakes.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, JC Barnes; siblings, Ruth Spake and Milton Loftin; and grandchildren, Pam Downs, and Bill Quinn.

Left to cherish Pauline's memories are her sons, Ronnie Barnes and Mark Barnes (Leah); daughters, Jantice Gaut and Andrea Shannon; sister, Faye Putman; grandchildren, Tom Sanders (Denise), Tracy Spehr (Pete), Celeste Barnes, and Justin Barnes; great grandchildren, Kerry Sanders, Kelsey Sanders, Kyle Sanders (Hannah), Kayla Sanders, Kendell Sanders (Sakaylea), Mitchell Spehr, Christen Spehr, Wesley Dockstader, and Jessica Wilkes; and great great grandchildren, Jackson Wilkes, Josie Wilkes,  Evie and Owen Sanders.

A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Sears, will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church – 1513 Florida Street, Gastonia, NC 28052.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.

Masks and social distancing are encouraged.

A private interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church – 1513 Florida Street, Gastonia, NC 28052.
