Paul Xavier Gerhard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Xavier Gerhard, who left this world on December 1, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on January 16, 1927, in Altoona Pennsylvania, Paul lived a life filled with love, passion, and an unmatched spirit. He made his home in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he spent many happy years surrounded by family and friends.

A dedicated mechanic, Paul's talents knew no bounds. He worked diligently on rail cars and automobiles, earning a reputation as the go-to guy for anything that needed fixing. His skills extended beyond mechanics, making him a true jack of all trades. Paul was a proud member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he found a strong sense of community.

Paul's involvement in social organizations further showcased his vibrant personality. He was a beloved member of the Gastonia Moose Lodge, having also contributed to the Moose community in Altoona, PA. He held memberships in the Bavarian Aid Society, the Unter Uns Society, and the Swiss Club, in Altoona, and he sang in the Maennerchor Choir, where he enjoyed many good times and lasting friendships.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Gerhard; his son, Stephen Gerhard (Kristina Stroud); and his daughters, Kathryn High, Elaine McCormick (Ron) and Janet Dixon; grandchildren, Joseph High (Aimee), Joshua High (Courtny), Jacob High (Meghan), Jonathan Gerhard, and Jesse Carter; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Rosanna Weyer. Paul's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church 708 St. Michael's Ln. Gastonia, NC, 28052.

Rest in peace, Paul. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rose Gerhard; siblings, Otto Gerhard, Alfred Gerhard and Margaret Gerhard; sons in-law, James High and Jerry Dixon.
