Otes Lane Ray Sr., 66, of Blacksburg, SC passed away October 19, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia. He was born August 21, 1949 in Buncombe County, son of the late Bertha Ray, and father of the late Beverly Heavener. Otes was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. He was an avid hunter and fisher, and was also a member of several poultry clubs. Otes received the title of Master Breeder & Exhibitor of black and white Bantam Cochins. Otes had a real passion for showing and competing in chicken shows. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Ray, will be held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia, officiated by Dr. Ned Buckner. Inurnment will be private. Mr. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Ray; sons, Otes L. Ray Jr., Mark S. Ray; daughter, Penny Morris; sister, Lorraine Paiva; eight Grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; He was a mentor and a father figure to Nick Bolin and Phillip Haney.
