Oscar Thomas Erwin

Oscar Thomas Erwin, 77, of Gastonia, passed away January 20, 2015 at his residence. He was born January 9, 1938 in Cherokee County, SC, the son of the late Foster Thomas and Cora Blackwell Erwin. Oscar was a loving husband, father and paw paw to his grandchildren. He was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Freightliner and loved camping. Oscar is survived by his children, Gary and Carol Erwin, Sonya and Ted Lackey, Sherry and Daniel Ward, grandchildren, Chris and Miranda Lackey, Crystal and Kenny Maney, Christy and Chad Moore, Chad and Nikki Lackey, Matthew Erwin and Heather Ward; great-grandchildren, Madison, Hayleigh, Caleb, Gavin, Zeric, Kyler, Jaida and Levi. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Erwin; son, Greg William Erwin. He was the last surviving child of his parents. A celebration of life service will be held 12 pm Saturday at Gaston Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Mike Wison. The family will receive friends 7 - 9 pm Friday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
