Nelson Badger, 73, of Gastonia, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at his residence. He was born April 10, 1941, in Gaston County, son of the late Craig Levi Badger and Ruby Johnson Huntsinger. Nelson was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. For over 15 years, he was the owner and operator of Tate Comfort Control Heating and Air, then, worked for 15 years at Freightliner before retiring. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by two infant children, Stephen and Stephanie; sons, James Terry Phillips, and Jerry Dean Phillips; grandchildren, Eric Benjamin Phillips and James Terry Phillips, Jr.; and sister, Julia Fewell. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 38 years, Naomi Badger; daughters, Sherry Phillips Sawyer (Jim) of Gastonia, Kim Phillips Farley (Bill) of Belmont; brothers, Dennis Badger (Virginia) of Gastonia, Cornell Badger (Belinda) of Gastonia, Eugene Badger (Margaret) of Bessemer City; brother-in-law, Kevin Fewell; grandchildren, Shannon Cooke, Deany Phillips, Jr., Michelle Arcidiacono, Heather Richardson, Jimmy Sawyer, Andy Sawyer, Jared Sawyer, Joshua Sawyer, Will Farley, Megan Farley; 8 great grandchildren; and beloved dog, Belle. A funeral service will be held 3pm, Monday, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Rd. Gastonia, officiating Revs. Tim Robbins and Raleigh Castelloe. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors.
