Nancy Freeman McMahan, 88, of Stanley, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. Born on September 9, 1937, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose devotion to her family defined her life.
Nancy will be remembered not only for her nurturing spirit but also for her love of stories and hobbies. A passionate fan of Westerns, particularly the classic show "Laramie," she found joy in adventure and tales of resilience. Her love for word searches and enthusiasm for reading brought her much happiness, reflecting her vibrant intellectual curiosity. Nancy was a cherished member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Dallas, where her faith played a central role in her life.
Nancy is survived by her son, Mark McMahan (Mara Welch); daughter, Laura Skinnell (Steve); brother, Paul Freeman; sisters, Betty Chandler and Bonnie Burleson (Blink); grandchildren, Shane McMahan (Jordan Conrad), Kyle McMahan (Brittany), Justin Skinnell, and Amber Joyner (Michael); great-grandchildren, Hunter McMahan, Kenzie Benfield, and Carson Joyner.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond McMahan; a sister, Martha Freeman Cole; and a brother, Jerry Freeman.
The family will hold a funeral service in her honor at Maranatha Baptist Church, 104 Downey Lake Rd, Dallas, NC, 28034, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the church from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the service, Nancy will be reunited with her husband at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
Nancy's spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering support, which will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
