Modena McClee Brown, 91, of Gastonia, passed away October 13, 2015 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. She was born July 6, 1924, a native of Gaston County, the daughter of the late Ernest and Maggie McClee. Modena was a lifetime church member at Springfield Baptist Church in Stanley. She attended Friendship Baptist Church in Gastonia. She was a member of Zeta-Phi-Beta sorority of Winston Salem Teachers College. Modena was a teacher for many years with Springfield School and other Gaston County Schools. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters Deborah Benton (Oscar) of Stanley, Teresa Dunovant (David) of Dallas; son Tracy Durham (Peggy) of Gastonia; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister Ernestine Mills of Gastonia; in-laws Aldovicus Brooks, Carol Floyd, Daisy Floyd, Lois Barnette (Albert), Nathaniel Brown (Maxine), Alfred Brown (Paulette); a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Gaston Hospice for their care of Mrs. Brown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James C. Brown; daughters Bernadette Brown, Cynthia Young; brother Ernest "Junior" McClee (Buck); sisters Margie Neal Guardia, Juanita McClee, Doreatha Martin and Sarah Warwick; nieces Patricia McClee and Wilhelmina Hines- Carter. A funeral service will be held 3 pm Sunday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Kimberly Moore. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
