Miles Cletis Johnston, Jr.

Miles Cletis "Sonny" Johnston Jr., 79, passed away Saturday, December 24, at the Caromont Regional Medical Center.  He was born December 21, 1937 in Gaston County and was the son of the late Miles C. Johnston Sr. and the late Essie Strickland Johnston.  Mr. Johnston was a US Airforce Veteran.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lowell, and was a member of the UAW, Mount Holly.  He was a former member of the Lowell Lion's Club, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Swinging Stars Square Dancing Club of Gastonia.  Mr. Johnston retired after 27 years from Freightliner, Mount Holly.  He also was the former co-owner of Johnston's Garage in Lowell.  He loved his family and he loved airplanes.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 pm Thursday at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, 1503 S. York Rd. Gastonia, with Dr. David Irish officiating.  Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 11:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 49 years, Sandra Teague Johnston; son, David Perkins and wife Sheila; daughter, Teresa Saldana and husband Rosendo; sister, Billie Schronce and husband Vernon; brothers in-law, Bob Teague, Charles Teague and Roger Teague; grandchildren, Brien Perkins, Robert Perkins and David Saldana; nieces and nephews, Doug Schronce, Judy Casey, Tammy Schronce and Kevin Schronce.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristy Saldana.
