Mike "Katdaddy" Nelms

Mike "Katdaddy" Nelms, 64, of Gastonia, NC, passed away, Saturday, June 13, 2020 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia.

He was born February 9, 1956 a native of Gaston Co, NC, son of the late Wesley Zack Nelms and Frances Smith Nelms.

Mike was a member of City Church, Gastonia. He was a US Navy Veteran and was employed with American Airlines for over 30 years. Mike loved to make people happy. Music was his passion, he played in a band and loved to sing. He would play music at weddings, nursing homes and just anywhere he was needed for no charge.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Nelms.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of over 44 years, Lori Nelms; son, Michael Nelms Jr. (Renee); daughter, Kalyn Pruitt (Charles); grandchildren, Landry, Kadence, Reece and Lochlin; sisters, Kay Grant (Gary) and Diane Kellar; sister-in-law, Renee Boyd; many loving nephews and nieces and their children and other beloved family members and friends.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Ricky Collins will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
