It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Stephen "Steve" Hughes, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, veteran, and cherished friend, who left us on August 12, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on April 17, 1951, in Gaston County, North Carolina, Steve spent his life as a dedicated machinist, contributing his skills as a CNC machinist while embracing the values of hard work and craftsmanship.
Steve was a proud Marine veteran, having served his country with honor and bravery. His commitment extended beyond his military service; he showed a profound love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
A man of many passions, Steve filled his days sharing laughter and warmth with those around him. Known for his delightful dad jokes, he had a unique way of brightening even the dullest of moments. His love for the outdoors led him to camping and fishing, where he felt most at home, surrounded by nature's beauty.
Steve also had a deep-seated interest in working on cars, whether it was repairing an engine or restoring a classic vehicle. This hands-on approach to life exemplified his character-dedicated, resourceful, and always eager to lend a helping hand.
In honoring Steve's life, a gathering of family and friends will be held 6-8 pm on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, with military honors provided by the US Marines. All who knew him are welcome to come together to reflect on the cherished memories we have of this remarkable man.
