The family gathering scheduled for February 1 has been postponed due to family illness.
Melvin "Fat" Prince, 89, of Gastonia, passed away January 27, 2025, at his home.
He was born October 6, 1935, in Hamilton County, Tennessee, son of the late Jessie Burt Prince and Lillian Campbell Prince.
He was a US Army Veteran who proudly served his country.
Some of his favorite hobbies were fighting chickens, playing pool and poker.
He loved his family deeply and loved spending time with them. He enjoyed going to Hardees to meet his friends and catch up on all the gossip. He never met a stranger, he genuinely loved meeting people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him
Due to circumstances with sickness and travel, the family will hold a private service.
Melvin is survived by his son, Terry Prince (Amy); grandchildren, Brittany Caldwell (Wesley), Haley Breakfield (Alan), Ben Shives; great-grandchildren, Eli Caldwell, Tucker Caldwell, Carly Breakfield, Gracie Breakfield; several nieces and nephews; and the very best neighbors and friends a man could have.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pearl Bell Prince; five brothers and six sisters.
