Mary Frances Soper

Mary Frances Soper (nee Janney), 83, of Centerport, New York, passed away on December 15, 2023.

Mary was born on February 24, 1940, in West Virginia, to the late Joseph Janney and Thelma Gandee.

The youngest of five surviving children, Mary set her sights on a life in New York and at the age of 23, she left home with little more than a suitcase of dreams. She flourished on Long Island, working as a legal secretary and spent more than fifty years in the small fishing hamlet of Centerport before retiring to the Charlotte, NC area.

She was an avid reader, devouring stories penned by authors ranging from Jane Austen to Danielle Steel. She never let her limited vision limit her life and strove to remain independent until the end.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Soper; and their fur babies, Hildy, Wendy, Chester and Sassy.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Julie Soper; son-in-law, Adam Campbell; stepsons, Donald Soper, James Soper and David Soper; and stepdaughter, Amy Soper.

A celebration of life is planned for Long Island, New York in the spring.
