Mary Frances Rohm

Jun 14, 1937 — Jul 12, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Frances Lewis Rohm, who left us on July 12, 2026, in her beloved Gastonia, North Carolina. Mary was a remarkable woman who filled her life with creativity and love for her family.

Born in Gaston County, North Carolina, Mary was a talented seamstress, dedicating her skills to Bullfrog Knits and Elizabeth Shop, where she brought countless garments to life. She also took joy in teaching at the NC Vocational Textile School, passing on her passion to the next generation. In an impressive demonstration of her craft, Mary made robes for the Abbot and the Monks of Belmont Abbey , a testament to her dedication and talent.

Outside of her work, Mary had a fervent love for gardening, delighting in the vibrant blooms that adorned her yard. She had a special love for butterflies, delighting in watching them and cherishing the many butterfly-themed gifts given to her by family and friends. Mary was formerly a member of Unity Baptist Church, where her warmth and kindness touched many.

She was a nurturing spirit, always gathering her family around her, from her sons Dr. Ryan Rohm (Dr. Cynthia) and Tim Rohm, to her daughters Beth Ledford (Rick) and Martha Rohm; grandchildren, Caroline (Phil), Andrew (Laura), Daniel (Krystal), Christy (Scott), Lauren (Robert), and Lily -were cherished lights in her life, as were her great-grandchildren, including Justin, Brittany, Tyler (Alexa), Selena, Bree, Reagan, Connor, Jack, and James. Mary is also survived by her loving brothers, Leonard Lewis (Loretta) and Thomas Lewis, and sister Margaret Rumfelt (Bill). Her legacy of love and creativity will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Grace Lewis; daughter in law, Sondra Rohm; brothers, Charles Lewis, James Lewis, George Lewis (JoAnn), and Earle Lewis; sister in law, Pam Lewis; husband, James Milton Rohm and his siblings, Ann Morrow (M. L.), Hazel Morris (Clarence), and Carrie Cloninger (Arnold).

Funeral services will be held at Ridge Baptist Church on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Visitation will start at 2:00 PM, followed by the service at 3:00 PM. Mary will be laid to rest at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery. We invite all who knew and loved her to come and celebrate her beautiful life.

Rest in peace, Mary. Your love will continue to grow in the hearts of your family and friends.
