It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Lee Plemmons, who left us on April 9, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on May 7, 1935, in North Carolina, Mary lived a life full of love and hard work, calling Gastonia her home.
Mary dedicated many years of her life working as a spinner in the cotton textile industry at Rex #2 and later continued her service at the former Gaston Memorial Hospital, where she took pride in lending a helping hand in housekeeping. A woman of deep faith, Mary was a devoted member of the Baptist Church and even shared her love for the teachings by serving as a Sunday school teacher.
Beyond her work and faith, Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of life-whether it was tackling her beloved puzzle books, hunting for treasures at yard sales, or enjoying a fun game of cards. She cherished her trips and adventures, particularly when her health permitted.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Angela Camp (Billy) and Kay Campbell, and son, James Plemmons, who will forever carry her spirit and memories in their hearts. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Farris, Johnny Welch (Cansas), Kristi Welch, Billy McCray and Joey Camp (Katherine); great-grandchildren, Trey, Brittany, Joshua, Kam, Aaliyah, Josalyn, Carter, Maddie, Skylar, Lyssa, Christopher, Tyer, Arie, Layton, Elijah and Randy; great-great-grandchildren, Preston and River.
The family will hold a funeral service to honor Mary on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation starting at 2:00 PM at the same location. Mary will be laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery - 540 N. Broad St., Gastonia, NC 28052.
In this time of grief, we remember Mary's warmth, her laughter, and the love she shared with all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Clara Ray; loving husband, Jack Plemmons; daughters, Jane and Linda Plemmons; sister, Stella Phillips; brother, James Ray; in-laws, Lee Ann Plemmons and Randy Campbell.
