Mary Ruth Nivens, 84, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 at her residence.
She was born April 18, 1936 in Rock Hill, SC, daughter of the late John Norris and Mary Hufstetler Norris.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Nivens; daughter, Patricia Mackins; grandson, Scott Herring; brother, Buddy Norris; and sisters, Mabel Blalock, Ada Luther and Jeanette Bradley.
Mary is survived by her children, Junior Herring and wife Ruth, James Herring and wife Vickie, Cathy Brown, and Jerry Herring and wife Ramona; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Gaston Memorial Park - 1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054.
Family will receive friends 5-7 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
