Mary Jane Johnson-Bayless

Mary Jane Johnson-Bayless, 79, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away Monday, June 27, 2026 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

A native of Gaston County, she was born on July 2, 1947 to the late Billy and Willie Mae Melton.

Mary was a member of God Can Baptist Church in Bessemer City, and also a member of the Mountaineer Cruisers in Kings Mountain. She loved her family and loved to travel.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Terry Johnson; sisters, Diane Roberts, Janet Rosser, Billie Payne; grandson, Dalton Johnson.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, John Bayless; son, Andy Johnson (Tracy), daughter, Mandy Scoggins (David); stepdaughters, Tina Rick, Pam Blanton, Susan Riddle (Cecil), Wendy Herbster (Chris), Jennie Bayless; sister, Cathy Gosnell; grandchildren, Summer Carroll, Allen Scoggins (Amanda), Sarah Quinn (Phillip), Matthew Scoggins (Hannah); great-grandchildren, Eion Scoggins, Presley Quinn, Etta Cate Scoggins, Penelope Quinn.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor James Land will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, 2:00 PM, at the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 216 Archie Whitesides Road, Gastonia, NC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service Friday at Gaston Memorial Park.
