Mary Helen Carpenter

With heavy hearts but joyful memories, we share the passing of Mary Helen Carpenter, who left this world on April 4, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 21, 1937, in Gaston County, NC, Mary lived a life filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures.

Mary was a devoted homemaker, pouring her heart into her family and creating a warm, loving environment in her home. She was a cherished mother to her son, Joseph Carpenter (Patti); daughter, Tammy Jordan; sister, Lynn Mathis (Don); grandchildren, Mark Jordan (Lisa), and Adam Carpenter (Brittany); great grandchildren, Katie Beth Jordan, Lorelai Jordan, Logan Jordan, Landon Carpenter, McKenna Carpenter, and Emersyn Carpenter; numerous nieces and nephews. Her grandbabies brought her immense joy, and she loved spending time with them, always ready with stories, hugs, and homemade treats.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Thelma Gilreath; brother, Jack Gilreath, Dub Gilreath, Joe Gilreath, and Bobby Gilreath; sister, Margaret Whitaker; grandson, Matthew Jordan.

An active member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Mary found great joy in her faith and community. She loved to travel with her church group, creating lasting memories and friendships along the way. She taught Sunday school for many years, starting with children and then later on the senior women class. Mary was the embodiment of kindness and grace, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a hearty laugh.

To honor her memory, a memorial service will take place at the Greene Funeral Service - West Chapel on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to join for visitation beginning at 1:00 PM that same day, providing an opportunity to share stories and celebrate the remarkable life of a truly special woman.

Mary Helen Carpenter touched the lives of many, and while we will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing her spirit will live on in the hearts of all she loved. Let us celebrate her life, her laughter, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
