Mary Magdalene Briggs

Mary Magdalene Goodwin Briggs, 97, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 2, 2017, surrounded by her beloved family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.

She was born on August 2, 1920, in Chatham County (Cape Fear), NC and lived in Gastonia and Cramerton for the last 25 years. She is the daughter of the late Walter S. Goodwin and Rowena Holt Goodwin.

Mrs. Briggs is preceded in death by her husband, Leon D. Briggs. She is survived by her sons, Michael D. Briggs,Sr. (Wanda) of Gastonia, NC, Gary W. Briggs (Elaine) of Glenelg, Maryland; daughter, Susan Briggs Wilkie-McHale (George) of Cramerton, NC; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, 7-9pm, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Rd. Gastonia.

A funeral service and interment will take place at the New Elam Christian Church in New Hill, NC, on Wednesday, at 2:00pm.
